This paper presents problem of power saving control design for electric traction drives. Review of classical control systems of electric traction drives is given. The principles and block-diagram of the modern AC traction drive for train. For the given block-diagram complex mathematical model of the AC traction drive is described. Computer simulation results for mode of movement starting and slip mode are presented. The properties of AC traction drives are possible to increase by full modeling of friction in the automatic mode.
