COVID-19 severityin patients with diabetes and cardiovascular diseases: A Short Review

A novel Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS - CoV - 2) causing coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID - 19) has been become a global health hazard and declared as a pandemic disease by WHO. Patients with Covid - 19 and pre - existing medical conditions li ke cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus and hypertension have an increased risk of severe disease and death. Furthermore, the increased expression of Angiotensin - converting enzyme 2 (ACE - 2) in patients with diabetes or cardiovascular diseases could increase the risk of severe infection with SARS - CoV - 2.
