The article examines a new type of academic staff activity entrepreneurship in the field of science and education. It also analyzes the degree of university staff's readiness for the changes in the structure of their activities in the course of transition from the traditional Humboldtian university model to the innovative entrepreneurial university model. The authors provide an analysis of the motivation profile of academic staff of N.I. Lobachevsky State University of Nizhni Novgorod revealing its specific features intrinsic to the representatives of natural sciences, and socio-economic sciences and the humanities. It has been demonstrated that the study of motivation of teaching and research staff activity should become one of the elements of human resources management in the university in the course of its transformation into an entrepreneurial university.
