Investigation of Infrared Stellar Spectra with High-Resolution Instrumentation.

1973
Abstract : Several infrared stellar spectra have been measured with about 0.5/cm resolution in the ranges 4100 to 5100 and 5400 to 6400/cm. The presence of OH absorption lines has been identified on them, and the rotational structure of the CO molecular absorption bands is easily resolved. The high resolution and high accuracy, deriving from Fourier spectrometry, permit distinctions between stellar and telluric absorptions on the basis of Doppler shifts. Many unidentified stellar features are evident in the spectra of long-period variables. The investigation required development of a Fourier spectrometer system and data-processint techniques, the details of which are presented here. (Author)
