Profiling photo-induced degradation for operationally perovskite solar cells in space environment

2021
Abstract Perovskite solar cells (PSCs) have excellent specific power and are potential external power sources for spacecraft. However, the low air pressure in the space environment hinders the operational stability of PSCs, and there is still a lack of understanding of their degradation mechanisms. Here, from the perspective of device performance, morphology and ion migration, PSCs are found to undergo severe degradation under space light. Further studies have shown that vacuum can significantly accelerate the degradation rate compared to atmospheric pressure. Photoinduced ion migration and volatilization of organic matter are the main causes of irreversible loss of PSCs. The results of this research provide important insights into the potential applications of PSCs in space.
