Selection of Electrode Material for Spray Charging in Electrostatic Nozzle

2012
Copper (98% pure) electroplated with Nickel (2OO/201 forged bar) as a new electrode for spray charging in electrostatic nozzle has been presented in this paper, Comparative study has been made using different materials electrode viz. Copper electroplated with Nickel, Copper (98% pure), Brass (70% Cu, 30o/o Zn) and Aluminum (98% pure). All electrodes were ring electrodes of inner diameter 15 mm and outer diameter of 22 mm of thickness 3.5 mm. The experiments were conducted in the air atmosphere at ambient conditions (T=1 6+2"C, RH= 57+3o/o\, for air feed rate of 18.5 l/min and liquid feed rate 93.5 ml/min, applied voltage ranging from 0 V to +3.0 kV. The results were characterized by charge-to-mass factor as a function of electrode material. Copper electroplated with Nickel electrode has given better results than other materials electrode.
