Effect of hypoxia on the mRNA and protein of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) expression in HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cells has been investigated. Hypoxia caused an increase of mRNA and protein expression of MMP-1. Hyperexpression of superoxide dismutase-2 (SOD-2) increased mRNA and protein of MMP-1 synthesis. Simultaneous overexpression of SOD-2 and catalase suppressed mRNA and protein of MMP-1 synthesis.
