Total reflection of light and water waves

A simple experimental arrangement is given to demonstrate the frustration of total reflection of visible light. The results obtained are in quantitative agreement with the theory. It is shown that the experiments in a ripple tank are suitable to demonstrate the circumstances on the less dense side of the interface in the case of total reflection.
