Nanosilver loaded oxide nanoparticles for antibacterial application

2020
Abstract For finding and developing new effective antibiotics, new approach has been focused on the nanoantimicrobials. These advanced nanoantimicrobials would have the superior antibacterial activity over the traditional molecular antibiotics, especially for the antibiotic resistant bacteria. Among these nanoantimicrobials, silver metal nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted scientific interest, because of their high effectiveness against broad-spectrum bacteria. However, their free ionic form is reported to be toxic not only to human cells but also to the environment. The loading of silver nanoparticles in metal oxide nanoparticles has received marked global attention, due to of its ability to control solubility and toxicity of AgNPs. This chapter focuses on antibacterial activity of Ag-loaded oxide nanoparticles against various microorganisms.
