Study on Reduction Methods of Uncertainty in PIV

Many studies have been conducted on Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV), because noncontacting measurements can be carried out at many positions simultaneously. Therefore PIV is a superior measurement method for an investigation of flow. However, the accuracy of the method is not satisfactory because it contains the uncertainty in the measurement.In this study, we focus on measurement errors caused by such reasons as the reading of image, erroneous vectors and the application of interpolation. We propose the simple methods for reduction in the uncertainty. The measurement error arise along with the reading of image was reduced by application of Kalman Filter PIV combined with the interpolation considering a reciprocal of distance. Further, an interpolation method with integral form of continuity equation was adopted the investigation.
