In its occurrence, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex virus type 1 and type 2, human herpesvirus type 6, and their association with the leading role of the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) are involved. To date, VEB-associated MI is considered as one of the forms of the Epstein-Barr virus infection (EBVI), which according to the literature data accounts for 5-18% of all diseases of EBVI-etiology.
