Huang Lian Jie Du Decoction Improves Learning and Memory Ability in Alzheimer's Disease Mice

2011
Objective: To observe the effects of huang lian jie du decoction(HLJDD) on learning and memory of Alzheimer's disease(AD) mice. Methods: Sixty AD mice were randomly divided into groups CMC,aricept, high dose HLJDD,middle dose HLJDD and low dose HLJDD(each group involved 12 mice).Mice were intragastrically treated with 0.5%CMC,3 mg/kg aricep,865 mg/kg HLJDD,433 mg/kg HLJDD and 216 mg/kg HLJDD respectively once a day for consecutive 180 days.Morris water maze test was applied to measure the learning and memory ability. Results: The escape latency and the average swim path of the mice in aricept, high dose HLJDD,and middle dose HLJDD groups but not in low dose HLJDD group were significantly shorter than that in CMC group(P0.05).Conclusion: HLJDD improves learning and memory ability in AD mice.
