Stress Fracture and Morphological Feature of the Tibial Bone

1989
The purpose of this paper is to describe the relationship between some morphological factors of the tibial bone and the regions suffering stress fracture. The tibial angle, tibial plateau-ankle mortice angle, posterior tilting angle and anterior bowing rate were measured radiographically. Stress fracture regions were divided into three groups; upper one-third (upper running type), middle one-third anterior (jumping type), middle to lower one-third posterior (lower running type).Main results were as follows:1) In the posterior tilting angle, no difference was found among the three groups.2) The mean anterior bowing rate of the upper running type was larger than that of the jumping type (p<0.05).3) Though not statistically significant, the tibial plateau-ankle mortice angle was larger in the lower running type than in the other two types.4) Mean degrees of the tibial angle in the lower running type was 95.8°, and was larger than that of the upper running type (p<0.05).
