The invention provides a universal needle file and a use method thereof. The universal needle file comprises a probe, a resistor, a selection switch and a source measuring unit, wherein the probe, the selection switch and the source measuring unit are connected in series to form a loop, the selection switch controls the resistor to be connected into the loop or controls the resistor to be short-circuited, when the probe implements dielectric breakdown testing on a to-be-tested sample, the resistor is connected into the loop by the selection switch, and when the probe implements conventional testing on the to-be-tested sample, the resistor is short-circuited by the selection switch. By the adoption of the universal needle file and the use method thereof, the double-throw selection switch capable of being rotatably connected to a resistor circuit or wire circuit is added, so that current at the moment of dielectric breakdown can be effectively reduced, and the dielectric breakdown testing and the conventional testing of which current can suddenly become large are compatible by adopting the selection switch.
