The popular use of reflective journals also lays emphasis on the 'self. Perhaps this is as it should be, since the ultimate aim of any reflection is presumably to improve one's own practice. Nevertheless, the idea of reflecting on others ' practice is also a legitimate and important activity and is, of course, the rationale behind peer observation and analysis. In this context, Lerman's definition of reflection is interesting:
