A Hitchhikers Guide to Urban Stormwater: Data Collection and Modelling

1992
New technology is enabling the collection of hydrometric data of greater accuracy than has previously been possible. However, the collection of urban stormwater data requires special care to account for the rapid response times, high water velocities and extremely variable rainfall. Users of the data should also ensure that they obtain sufficient information about the data to confirm that its accuracy is applicable to their needs. Calibration of urban stormwater models is particularly sensitive to these aspects and is made more difficult by the paucity of data and the unique responses of the impervious surfaces and pervious residential lawns.
