Influence of manure strategy in layer houses with view to ammonia and dust production

2012
Production of airborne pollutants in stables is an important hygienic factor of the inside and outside atmosphere. There are different sources of ammonia and dust depending on the type of layer house, feeding and especially the manure strategy. Examples of these are manure pits in floor keeping and manure belts. Manure pits lead to storage inside the stable for a longer time up to one laying period. Manure belts, ventilated or not, give the opportunity to clean the stable in certain time-intervals. Usually manure belts are cleaned once or twice a week. It can be shown that there is a large influence of the manure strategy on the concentration of air pollutants inside and the emissions from the stables.
