Tensile properties of polypropylene (PP)/ virgin acrylonitrile butadiene rubber (NBRv)/Sago composites under thermal aging

2021
Agriculture waste residue released to environment due to its processing will affect the entire ecosystem. In this project, the utilization of sago waste will reduce the pollution in the water body. Instead of trying to preserve the environment, this research eventually aims for productions of composites mainly consist of Polypropylene (PP)/ virgin Acrylonitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBRv)/ Sago as the organic fibre (filler) that applicable in the industries. The main purposes of the research are to determine the mechanical properties and morphological structure of the composites under oven aging and without aging. The mechanical properties are identified by using UTM-Instron to measure tensile strength, Young’s Modulus and elongation at break whiles the fractured sample’s structure of the composites observed by Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM). As a conclusion, the optimum day for thermal aging is 15 days with highest tensile strength and Young’ modulus but lowest elongation at break. These findings proved that the performance of the composite is better after oven aging.
