This paper demonstrates, how the application of modern telecommunication and information processing systems contributes to the longitudinal dynamic control of vehicles within platoon via model based predictive control. Within the interdisciplinary project EFAS (Einsatzszenarien fur FahrerassιstenzSysteme im Guterverkehr und deren Bewertung), supported by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research, a longitudinal state space controller for a heavy duty vehicle within platoon was developed and tested in Matlab/Simulink® by the Institute of Automatic Control (IRT) of the Aachen University [4]. Further on the model based predictive control method is developed, via analysis and simulation.
