Studies on toxicity and mutagenicity of thifensulfuron

2003
To clarify the toxicity and mutagenicity of thifensulfuron, rat, guinea pigs and rabbits were selected to exposure to thifensulfuron via mouth, skin and percutaneous route to study its acute toxicity. Its mutagenicity were studied by the meens of Ames test, polychromatophil micronucleus (PCMN) test and mouse testis primary spermatocyte chromosome aberration asssay. Oral half lethal dose(LD 50) of thifensulfuron exceeds 5000mg/kg in rats, acute dermal toxicity(LD 50) exceeds 2000mg/kg, negative skin and mild eye irritation in rabbits, mild skin allergy in guinea pigs, with acute poisoning. Ames test, PCMN and mouse tetis primary spermatocyte chromosome aberration was negative between the treated and control groups. Thifensulfuron was lower toxic agricultural substance. On this condition, it was no mutagenicity.
