Magnetic Fe60Al40 thin films

1987
Abstract Thin films of Fe 60 Al 40 have been deposited in high vacuum using two E-beams onto a kapton substrate. These films were then mainly characterized by conversion electron Mossbauer spectroscopy working at 20°C. They were found to be crystalline and chemicallu disordered; moreover they behave ferromagnetically even at room temperature. The paramagnetic fraction of Fe atoms was ≈70% while the average hyperfine field of the ferromagnetic one was determined to be 250 kOe. Comparisons are also done with a ion implantation induced magnetic layer created at the surface of an initially paramagnetic bulk Fe 60 Al 40 alloy.
