Silver(I) complexes of 4-(2-oxazolinyl)pyridine: Counteranion dependent structural diversity

2012
Abstract Five new coordination complexes, namely [Ag(L)](BF 4 ) ( 1 ), [Ag 6 (L) 4 (NO 3 ) 6 ] ( 2 ), [Ag 3 (L) 4 (CH 3 CN) 2 ](SbF 6 ) 3 (H 2 O) ( 3 ), [Ag(L)(OOCCF 3 )] ( 4 ) and [Ag(L)(CH 3 SO 3 )] ( 5 ), have been obtained by the reactions of the ligand 4-(2-oxazolinyl)pyridine (L) with different Ag(I) salts under the same reaction conditions. The frameworks of 1 – 5 show different structural features: complex 1 is a zigzag chain; complexes 2 – 4 contain 2D networks with different topologies; complex 5 , interestingly, contains both a zigzag chain and a 2D network. The results reveal that the nature of the counteranions, such as their shape and size, coordination ability and coordination mode, has a great effect on determining the resulting structures. Meanwhile, electrospray mass spectrometry (ES-MS) shows the existence of the fragment of a coordination polymer in the solution.
