Genomic RNA accumulation of gentian ovary ring-spot virus and raspberry bushy dwarf virus in pollen tubes

2018
The time course of genomic RNA (gRNA) accumulation of gentian ovary ring-spot virus (GORV) and raspberry bushy dwarf virus (RBDV) among total RNAs from germinating pollen grains and elongating pollen grains incubated in germination buffer was assessed by quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reactions. GORV and RBDV gRNAs reached a maximum accumulation among the total RNAs after 3 and 1 h of incubation, respectively. Because the viral gRNAs could have been present in the germination buffer rather than in the pollen grains, GORV and RBDV might replicate and be discharged from the growing pollen tubes.
