Study of the effect of pH values of the uterine fluid on the Multiload Cu 250 intrauterine device

The authors present the results of their investigation of the influence of pH values of uterine fluid on copper medicated IUDs. Corrosion of the copper on the Multiload Cu 250 device was observed through use of the cyclic voltametry during different pH values obtained by previous analysis. It was established that corrosion occurred more quickly in an acid than in alkaline medium. This fact might be significant in connection with the speed release of copper ions from a device and duration of the infertile period. (authors modified) (summary in ENG)
