Discussion of Testers and Test Procedures

There are well-elaborated procedures for measuring flow properties with shear testers that allow accurate measurement and largely exclude influences due to anisotropy or friction on boundary walls. Sometimes, however, there is a desire to use a particularly “simple” method, e.g., measuring the angle of repose. This chapter gives an overview of the essential criteria for a reliable measurement procedure and evaluates several measurement procedures on the basis of these criteria.
