Solubility of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane in different solvents from (288.15 to 313.15) K

2012
Abstract The saturated solution of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane in methanol, ethanol, propan-1-ol, propan-2-ol and octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane from (288.15 to 313.15) K was prepared by an isothermal method and the solubility data were obtained from their respective density and the index of refraction calibration curves. The results show that the solubility of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane in the five solvents increases with increasing temperature. Octamethylcyclotetrasiloxane is the most suitable solvent for crystallization of 1,3-dimethyl-1,1,3,3-tetraphenyldisiloxane from solution. The experimental solubility data were correlated by the modified Apelblat equation, the van’t Hoff plot, and λh (Buchowski) equation. The dissolution process is the endothermic and entropy driven process.
