Design and Implementation of Device for Measurements of Magnetic Nanoparticles in Microfluidics Systems: first implementation prototype

2021
The main strategies for the treatment of cancer include as a fundamental pillar early detection, on which multiple efforts have been made to find conclusive evidence of the presence of this disease in apparently healthy people. One of the technologies that have been booming due to this need are Lab-on-a-Chip devices, which in combination with the use of magnetic nanoparticles as markers for cancer cells and giant magnetoresistance sensors (GMR) as detectors can be create a methodology capable of detecting and quantifying the concentration of cancer cells in samples. This paper documents preliminary tests for the detection of Dynabeads M-270 of the Invitrogen brand circulating through straight microchannels by means of the commercial sensor GMR AA002–02 of the NVE corporation, using a structural design oriented to the physical and electrical characteristics of a Lab-on-a-Chip. With the configurations of the GMR sensor, the microchannel and the magnetic source, results were obtained showing the detection of the nanoparticles when they circulated through the microchannel.
