Una mirada a las regulaciones en cosméticos, tratamientos estéticos y profesiones afines

2021
Aesthetic and cosmetic cares have experienced a big development in the last decades. In Cuba, this activity has been on the rise with the approval of new ways of non-state management. Therefore, the present article has the aim of reflecting on the need to establish in Cuba specific regulations for this activity that is nowadays out of the valid regulations. The regulatory documents related with aesthetic and cosmetic cares established in European and Latin-American countries were consulted, as well as the valid regulations in Cuba. The functioning manuals, the registries of equipment and cosmetic products of the State Center for the Control of Quality of Drugs, Equipments and Medical Devices and the National Institute of Hygiene, Epidemiology and Microbiology, respectively were also studied. The classification of the specialists linked to aesthetic and cosmetic care used nowadays in Cuba does not correspond to the real development of the activity, which encourages professional intrusion. Only cosmetics produced and imported by institutions registered in the country are regulated, as well as the equipment of medical institutions; so, other products and equipments of frequent use in aesthetic and cosmetic treatments and procedures are out of the regulation. The facilities where these services are provided lack of regulation, which facilitates the development of activities for what they are not designed. The development of the services devoted to aesthetic and cosmetic cares in the different forms of management in Cuba requires sanitary regulations directed to guarantee the quality of the services, and with it, the health of clients.
