LEARNING DIFFICULTIES IN CONCURRENT PROGRAMMING OF JAVA

2015
Concurrency has moved from operating system to applications and the need for concurrent programming has moved from small number of system programmers to large community of application developers. Concurrent programming is both an important technique and a challenging one. Learning of concurrent programming is often hard for students. A study has been conducted in this regard, to analyze the difficulties of students in learning of ‘concurrent programming using Java. This study analyses the data collected from a group of engineering undergraduates. The students have mentioned the various causes for their learning difficulties which includes debugging of concurrent programming, use of fewer examples during practical session and teacher teaching the concurrent programming with less logical sequence. Consequently, the authors suggest remedies to overcome the students learning difficulties. The result of the study could be valuable both for students and teachers.
