Power-efficient dynamic brightness driver architecture for modular LED display

2016
We propose a power-efficient dynamic brightness control method for modular LED display. We change peak brightness according to input image considering both power consumption and image quality. By estimating power consumption of input image, we determine the maximum peak brightness level which does not exceed cabinet power limit. But, LED color is shifted as we apply different proportional currents to change its brightness. So, we measured the amount of color shift using a colorimeter and derived entire R/G/B current gain model to change brightness without color shift. Experimental results show that peak brightness can be increased more than five times than full white luminance without color shift.
