Control and Monitoring

1993
In this paper control and monitoring on a local scale will be presented within the perspective of soil protection in the preventive sense. Monitoring can be used to control soil and groundwater quality, but also as quality control on insulation, underground storage tanks, pipelines etc. Monitoring is often restricted to frequent sampling and analyzing of groundwater. It was found, however, that there is a need for (semi-)continuous monitoring as a quality control by stand-alone systems. The development of soil sensors and analyzers, in combination with sampling methods, will be essential for application in stand-alone systems. Monitoring systems and techniques will be discussed with special attention being paid to the application and development of soil sensors.
