Sustainable Use of Land Resources and Soil Erosion Control in Mountainous Areas

2005
The relation between soil erosion and land use in mountain areas is very close, and both of them are in causality: soil erosion is fundamentally the inevitable result of land resources irrational exploitation, while increasingly serious soil erosion immediately influences and restricts the sustainable use of land resources, and then endangers the sustainable development of the economy and society in mountain areas. The authors put forward the particular connotation of sustainable land use in mountain areas based on the reasons mentioned above, and consider that soil erosion control must depend on the rational land use,and the leading countermeasure for land resources rational exploitation in mountain areas is to control the soil and water loss. For a long time, land use planning as well as soil and water conservation planning were each done in its own way,and the effects of planning were not so good. The authors consider that rational land use pattern, structure and corresponding soil conservation measures should be combined organically and be planned simultaneously, which means to combine land use planning with soil and water conservation planning into one(i.e.comprehensive land use and soil conservation planning),consequently the objectives of sustainable use of land resources and the coordinated development of human beings and nature in mountain areas would be realized.
