Geoenvironmental aspects of chemically based ground improvement techniques for pyritic mine tailings

In this study, a review is made of the basic hydration processes and mineral transformation of the chemically based treatment techniques for pyritic mine tailings. Emphasis is given to the factors that influence the setting of the treatment agents and their interaction with the waste. A case study is presented and discussed. The success of the treatment technique is evaluated based on X-ray diffraction analysis, scanning electron micrographs and the hydro-mechanical properties (i.e. shear strength and hydraulic conductivity) of the treated samples. Dans cette etude, nous passons en revue les processus elementaires d'hydratation et la transformation minerale des techniques de traitements chimiques pour les residus miniers pyriteux.
