Food 101 Survival Guide

2014
The Spring Introduction Programme 2014 welcomes about 200 new international students who follow an obligatory programme. Throughout a week of project work students make an acculturation plan and get familiarized with the Delft study method and working in multicultural groups. The Food 101 Survival guide is designed to get international students through the first 24hours, in a new country, in a new place, often trying to understand a new language. Presented with the work completed in the summer program we determined that we needed to simplify, and customize the existing maps and information, and that the brochure or app needed to be clear and allow the user to determine what they needed in a 1 week bracket rather than provide information useful for a longer time period. The product created is a goodie bag, with items that can be picked from a makeshift supermarket accessible on arrival to the survival cafe and a brochure that includes information that allows users to easily and quickly determine a select few restaurants and supermarkets that were close to the users new houses.
