Primary Meningococcal Pneumonia1

Primary meningococcal pneumonia with positive cultures of sputum and blood was observed in a previously healthy 22-year-old male. The pneumonia occurred without antecedent influenza and was not associated with meningitis. There was no response to antibiotic therapy and the patient died on the third hospital day.
