Laparoscopic low anterior resection performed with ArtiSential® in an obese male patient with a narrow pelvis ‐ a video vignette

2020
The advantages of articulated laparoscopic instruments became evident with the advent of robotic surgery. Increased dexterity, multi-degrees of freedom and the elimination of the fulcrum effect provided by articulation, meant more accessibility in confined anatomical regions like the pelvis and the mediastinum (1). High acquisition and maintenance costs of surgical robots led to a growing interest in developing laparoscopic instruments able to provide similar articulation (2).
