Endoscopic Approach to the Intramural Ureter During Total Nephroureterectomy

2016
The purpose of endourology is to develop minimally invasive techniques that can equal or surpass the results of classical open surgery. Nephroureterectomy with perimeatic cystectomy, an extensive urologic intervention, naturally determines the search for methods that reduce invasiveness. Endourological techniques have permitted the elimination of one of the two incisions required for classical interventions, enabling less invasive detachment of the intramural ureter and resecting of the perimeatic vesical wall. This intervention is one of the rare situations in which an endoscopic approach only completes the classical surgical steps.
