Performance Evaluation of Wsn to Monitor Safety Parameters of Ac Transmission Line

2021
In the emerging boom of smart power grid technology, the design and development of any transmission system before and after erection has to carefully look into the withstanding capability of the line conductor due to the affecting safety parameters like weight of the conductor itself, ice loading, wind loading, tension etc., to see that the sagging in the conductor is well within the permissible limits with regard to public safety and action. The cost effective and fast growing contribution of WSN (Wireless Sensor Node) towards data acquisition and transmission has made its vital importance spread across various applications in the modern day life. This paper proposes a novel approach to monitor the safety parameters which result in sag of transmission lines, by deploying sensor nodes over the conductor with multiple 4:1 grouping topology. The various performance parameters of the proposed WSN model like throughput, PDR(Packet Delivery Ratio), energy, delay involved, cost comparison and performance with regard to varying number of groups are evaluated with the aid of Network Simulator–3 and Gnu plot.
