A method for the wireless registration of a DECT/CAT-iq communication terminal 120, 130 with a DECT base station 110 is provided. The DECT terminal is registered with a DECT base station using a identifier, which identifier is used to searching for, download and executing software (called a virtual appliance) from a database (called a virtual appliance repository) that contains the required base station software necessary for the DECT terminal, and with which the communication terminal may have pre-subscribed. In some embodiments of the present invention, a communication terminal is registered as an endpoint device for a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) uniform resource identifier (URI) when the communication terminal registers with the base station.
