Etudes des intoxications aiguës dans la préfecture de Kati, région de Koulikoro, Mali.

Toxic pathologies are a concern for pre-hospital medicine, emergency and resuscitation services around the world. In order to update epidemiologicals data in Mali, the present study aims to determine the clinical characteristics and risk factors of acute intoxication cases in the health district of Kati prefecture. This is a 10-year prospective and retrospective study during which 567 cases were obtained. The intoxicated people were mostly represented by the children (244 cases), P<10-3. Symptoms related to the products in question (especially venom from toxic animals, 62% and food salmonellosis, 21%) were dominated by gastro-enteric and neurological signs. Most poisonings were accidental (98%). Drug use (60 cases) and accidental snakebites and envenomations (353 cases) were very significant, RR = 0.6; IC95% = [0.4 - 1.8]. Patients had traditional treatment, 18% of cases before admission. From the time of hospitalization, gastric dressing, antivenom serum, atropine and activated charcoal were the most commonly administered drugs. The volution was good despite 1 case of death by ophidian envenimation. Post-hospital follow-up was observed in 5% cases.
