Investigation on the size and trajectory of mixed jet diffusion flames in cross wind

2017
Abstract This paper investigates the size and trajectory of mixed jet diffusion flame with the increasing cross flows. The combined effect of cross flow and hydrogen volume fraction is revealed. Experiments are carried out in a wind tunnel, using nozzles with diameter of 4mm and the mixtures of hydrogen and propane as fuel. The two dominated regimes, jet dominated (3.0 R M R M >10), were found in the experiments. Results showed that the mixed jet flame evolution will be affected by the hydrogen flow velocity and cross flow wind. For the fixed hydrogen volume fraction, the flame trajectory length decreased firstly and increased subsequently for the same fuel jet velocity with increasing cross air flow speed. The flame trajectory length presents a decreasing trend with increasing hydrogen volume fraction for the fixed fuel jet velocity.
