Design of Microstrip Patch Antenna for RFID Reader Applications

2018
Slot antennas are effective in handling bandwidth issues. Recently, these slot antennas are employed in RFID applications where bandwidth is a limiting factor when compared with its directivity as both the parameters are mutually conflicting. In this paper, triangular slot geometry is proposed for its obvious advantages of improved directivity and bandwidth applications in several mobile applications. The designed slot is excited with an inset feed system. The antenna design is validated using measured S11 and VSWR parameters on the fabricated prototype. The bandwidth of the proposed geometry reported to 40 MHz, which is quiet sufficient to cover the RFID requirements.
