Determination of the total cross section for rho/sup 0/N interaction from the reaction. pi. /sup +/+A. -->. pi. /sup +/+. pi. /sup -/+kp (k = 0, 1, 2,. ) +A' in carbon and xenon nuclei at a primary. pi. /sup +/ momentum 2. 9 GeV/c

Production of rho/sup 0/ mesons by ..pi../sup +/ mesons with momentum 2.9 GeV/c in a mixture of carbon and xenon nuclei is investigated. The total cross section for interaction of rho/sup 0/ mesons with nucleons is found to be 29.3/sup +6.9//sub -5.8/ mb. The technique of identifying quasinucleon interactions is discussed.
