Tulare County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer

2003
The price of milk declined by $2.96 per hundredweight. Even with increased volume, the reduced price resulted in a lower total milk value of $961,806,000. Cattle and calf numbers improved this year. The growing dairy industry continues to drive a change in cropping patterns. For example, much of the land that was formerly devoted to cotton production has been shifted to the growing of silage for cattle feed.
