Neutron Radiography and Autoradiography at the J. Stefan Institute

1983
At 250 kW TRIGA MARK II Reactor in Ljubljana two different neutron radiographic facilities are constructed. One facility is primarily used for NR inspection of macroscopic objects, while the other is intended for microneutronography and neutron induced autoradiography. Neutron radiography was used in examination of abnormally elongated Al-clad TRIGA fuel elements and applied for few users in aircraft, chemical, ski and metallurgical industry. Experimental and theoretical study has been done, elucidating the role of back-diffused betas in imaging process with beta-emitting converter screens and the spatial resolution of radiographic techniques has been determined. A comprehensive and fundamental study of neutron radiographic and auto-radiographic properties of various SSNTD-s is in progress. The applications of neutron induced autoradiography with SSNTD-s are presented. Ultra high resolution heavy charged particle relief autoradiography with gelatine as an imaging material was introduced.
