The article investigates instructions as a metagenre characterized by an intentional-content base and instructional means of exposition and implemented in speech within discrete genres. The metagenre’s parameters are outlined through formal semantic typology of instructional texts. Analysis of these concrete examples yields a gradation of rising instructional text complexity ranging from primary-level to roundabout, in-depth implementation. “Multilayered genre” is proposed as the term for this gradation.
