Localization of neurophysin-II in the hypothalamo-neurohypophysial system of the pig by immunofluorescence histochemistry.

1971
Sensitive and specific immunofluorescence techniques have been used to show that the hormonebinding protein for lysine vasopressin (porcine neurophysin-n) occurs throughout the hypothalamoneurohypophysial system of the adult and neonatal pig and is localized principally in the neurosecretory neurons arising from the supraoptic nucleus. The results are discussed with reference to the hypothesis that the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei are concerned with the elaboration of vasopressin and oxytocin respectively.
