The occurrence and chemistry of huntite from Oman

1994
Abstract The occurrence of huntite, Mg 3 Ca(CO 3 ) 4 , is described from the basal thrust zone of the Oman ophiolite, where it is much more common than has hitherto been realised. Weathering of serpentinite leads to highly magnesian groundwaters, which in turn results in precipitation of magnesian huntite. In this environment, unusually high concentrations of Sr are also a normal feature of the huntite.
