Acute respiratory insufficiency as the initial clinical manifestation of spinal muscular atrophy

: An infant was hospitalized with near miss sudden infant death syndrome at the age of seven weeks, and the final diagnosis of Werdnig-Hoffmann disease was proven by muscular biopsy at the age of seven months. The near miss event was caused by diaphragmatic paralysis which was the initial manifestation of this fatal disease.
