Shape memory effect due to a phaselike transition in high Tc superconductors

Abstract Tensil tests for YBaCuO, Bi(Pb)SrCaCuO and TlBaCaCuO show that there always appear ferroelastic loops and shape memory effects due to the phaselike transition at some tens of degrees above T c , which disappear for nonsuperconducting phases. The property of the phaselike transition and the discrepancy of the internal friction peaks near T c for YBaCuO have been studied and discussed.
